Lily's First Steps - Cancer Can't Stop Her
Donation protected
Lily’s battle with a brain tumour continues with no end in sight. She was diagnosed at 4 months old and been fighting every day since with a smile on her face. Over 2 years of chemotherapy, 60 hours of brain surgery (5 separate operations), 1 major stroke, and constantly new diagnoses all stemming from the damage the tumour caused in her brain - epilepsy, diencephalic syndrome, hemiplegia cerebral palsy, dystonia, optic nerve atrophy, and the list goes on.
Lily is 2.5 and cannot stand up on her own. Cancer has taken a lot from Lily, including the majority of her vision, but we are trying to give her as normal as a childhood as possible. She deserves a chance to learn to walk and gain some independence.
Through the hospital, Lily only gets 2 hours a month of physical therapy. It is no where close to enough. The best available private treatment is in Toronto. Lily needs specialized therapy that addresses her brain damage and trauma. On a recent trip to Toronto in November 2019, Lily was able to stand for the first time independently. We saw more progress in 2 days working with Simona DeMarchi in Toronto than we have seen in the past year. The current approach is not working so we are pursuing therapy that is not available in Ottawa.
In 2020 we will travel to Toronto for intensive blocks of physical therapy. We appreciate any help to ease the financial burden on our family.
Any extra money will be used to help pay for other medical expenses including: tube feeding supplies, supramalleolar orthosis (SMO shoe inserts that Lily outgrows every half shoe size), and Nourish formula.
