Lily’s kidney journey

Donation protected
Hi everyone, I am fundraising for myself and my little family. I was born with one kidney and it has always been dropping function.
In September of 2022 Lily was life flighted from Columbus Community Hospital to Omaha where she was in a coma state and family was told she would not make it unless she got a liver and kidney transplant at the same time. Lily then woke up and recovered amazingly. She no longer needed a liver but her kidney was in bad shape. After returning home from the hospital Lily got a full time job along with her husband Kyle. In May of 2023 Lily had surgery for a Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) port placement and started dialysis from the comfort of her home in June. Continuing on her journey she has decided to extended her transplant surgery reach into neighboring states. Her first out of state transplant evaluation is in August 2024. Lily lost her job in March of 2024. Lily and her husband, Kyle, had a savings built for her transplant journey but due to her being blind & on dialysis she struggled to find an income for 6 months causing them to have to dip into the savings. Lily lost her medication coverage when she lost her job and they had to pay out of pocket for her dialysis prescription for the time it was down costing them more than they thought. Lily is working closely with specialist to figure out if she will ever be able to drive again but until then Kyle will have to take time off of work to take her to kidney appointments and everything in between. They are hoping to rebuild their “Transplant Savings Account,” along with “catching up” on other bills that have accumulated since Lily lost her income. Lily and Kyle Fiala have owned a home in Columbus for nearly 4 years but they are now facing foreclosure due to non-payment because of low income moments. They did apply for disability but it is a long waiting period to hear back so Lily decided that going back to work full-time was the best option to keep her family afloat. They also applied for different state-aid such as “emergency utility assistance” and “SNAP” but were denied in the end because their GROSS income was right at the limit. Their wages are being garnished for medical expenses until further notice. Any amount will help the Fiala Family get back on their feet and grow the transplant funds again.
