Limbpower Juniors ICan Family Camp
As some of you will already know, my daughter Ivy was born with a rare congenital condition called Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency (or PFFD for short). As a result of this condition, Ivy has a significantly shortened right femur. Ivy has already undergone a few surgeries in her short life, but last August was her most significant. Ivy underwent surgery to amputate her right foot. This surgery has meant that Ivy is now able to wear a much better fitting prosthesis and has increased her mobility options for later life.
LimbPower and in particular, LimbPower Juniors, support people in Ivy's position who have to adapt to life with a limb impairment in too many ways to list. This includes supporting individuals and families coming to terms with limb impairment, support funding for specialist prosthetics and running events that showcase the wide range of activities available to individuals with limb impairment. In short they bring a sense of normality and help people realise that a limb impairment doesn't mean an impaired way of life; you can do anything you put your mind to!
Every year Limbpower run a Camp where children, like Ivy, can engage in exercise in a fun, enjoyable, safe and inclusive way. The Camps support the development of independence, social skills, self-discipline and support a healthy mind. Children with limb difference often feel excluded from these types of activities, not at #ICan Camp, everything is designed around including the child with limb difference.
Without donations, it’s not possible for Limbpower to run these Camps, so Ivy, along with myself and her dad Nick, are trying to help raise funds so that these invaluable camps can go ahead and give children, like Ivy, the opportunity to participate in sport and activities alongside children like them. If you could spare a few pounds, we know if would make a huge difference to a lot of children, including Ivy.
Thank you.
