Odyssey Health & Wellness based in Middlesbrough are very excited to be supporting 3 local charities this year by aiming to raise 10k for each organisation!!! What they do is invaluable & it's important to ensure they can keep moving forward & improving our local community!
A little from each charity:
Youth Focus NE: Youth Focus North East is an independent charity with the overall vision to improve the lives of young people through high-quality youth work. We exist for the benefit of young people & the organisations which support them. Working together, we invest in the lives of young people to create lasting change in their own lives and the communities in which they live. Our organisation is rooted in the values of good youth work!
Red Balloons: We aim to help our members improve & manage their mental health, through physical activity & talking. Our team all have their own lived experiences & are trained to be supportive, encouraging & motivating.
We are committed to working together with our members, the local community, organisations & health professionals, to offer an inclusive & safe space for people to learn to manage their physical & mental health, with a network of support behind them.
We are dedicated to helping build a happier & healthier environment, where mental health can be discussed as openly & as confidently as physical health. We aim to reduce stigma, raise awareness of the trickier subjects such as suicide, work towards suicide prevention & help bust any myths around mental health.
Every Man Can: Every Man Can (Currently in transition from BoroManCan to new Charitable Organisation):
Every Man Can is a Men’s Health campaigning organisation for men in Teesside. Its Mission is to improve men's health outcomes in an ever expanding area of Teesside and beyond by encouraging men to reach out, talk, take action, explore new activities; celebrating masculinity to sustain a better life & live longer.
They want to include the varied testimonies of real men & boys across South Tees and beyond making potential changes more relatable for blokes & can encourage more men to speak out about their struggles or experiences.
Every Man Can will fundraise to promote existing & new developments of local men's health groups, activities, services, events, podcasts, performances, health messages & interventions. They aim to use bold & straight forward language, utilising men's health research, examples of good practice as well as pushing innovation in mens health for our area..
They aim to embrace our Men’s Health Plan to encourage better service design & delivery aimed at men, that engages &motivates men to make changes. The campaign aims to to become a peer support campaign that will train men's health champions to help us in our mission & ultimately support male members of the public to live a better life for them & their families.
The organisation focuses both on mental & physical health as both are massively intertwined. As the South Tees & wider Tees area enters its post-industrial future, a lot of emphasis with Every Man Can is on breaking down those harmful stereotypes of men not speaking about their health, or leaving their healthcare until it's too late for any treatment.
