Lina and Vakare

Donation protected
Some of you may remember Lina Rusteikaité who was on the kitchen staff at ECC from 2011 to 2014, after which she returned to Lithuania. Lina is the single mother to a daughter, Vakare, who will be 12 on 11th March. Vakare has Larsen Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder which causes skeletal malformations, joint deformities and breathing difficulties (https://rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/larsen-syndrome/).

I was recently in touch with Lina to see how Vakare is doing, and the news is sadly not good. While originally she needed callipers to walk, a few years ago she had emergency surgery which has left her paralysed from the neck down and requiring a tracheostomy to breathe. She has continued her studies (for which she now has to hold a pen in her mouth) and remains cheerful and optimistic but she is a very ill little girl. She has just been provided with a new wheelchair, which will obviously make life much better for her and for Lina, but the Lithuanian government subsidy is limited, and Lina needs to find the remaining money for it, which I understand is 2760 euros. This is money she does not have.

If you feel that you would like to contribute,  we will then send those funds directly to Lina in Lithuania. Lina and Vakare would be hugely grateful for any assistance at all.
