Linda Garvin Memorial Bench & Scholarship Fund

**UPDATE 12/19/23**

We surpassed our $5000 goal (double our original goal!) in a week's time. We couldn't be happier with the outpouring of support from so many of Linda's family, students, friends and loved ones. The bench has been secured and is currently with the engraver. Now, we are in the process of planning a dedication for April 2024.

As previously mentioned, the additional funds will go toward a scholarship or similar enduring program on St. Croix in Linda's name — more details on that and the dedication to come soon! Thanks again!

Dear Friends, Family, Students, Neighbors, and Loved Ones of Linda Garvin,

We are raising money to honor Linda Garvin’s memory on the island of St. Croix where she lived. A small group came together and proposed the installation of a park bench, with her name engraved, in the Midre Cummings Park Playground.

We need your help to raise the funds required to purchase, engrave and install the bench.

Linda played a crucial role in the completion of the playground, recruiting more than a thousand local volunteers who constructed this unique play space where children now play.

On September 29th, 2023 we received approval from the Parks Commissioner to move forward with our memorial bench project. It so happens that approval came on what would have been Linda’s 75th birthday. Coincidence? We think not. The magic of Linda lives on!

Our small planning group selected a colorful and durable bench made of the same plastic lumber that was used to build the playground. This beautiful bench will compliment the park’s aesthetic design and be able to withstand the outdoor elements of the island. The engraving will say:

We are now in the process of recruiting friends and volunteers to assemble and install the bench for dedication in late April 2024.

How can you help?

Donate today! We estimate the purchase, engraving, site preparation, and installation of the bench will cost around $2,500. We plan to elicit low-dollar donations from as many people as possible to ensure that the completion of this project is a community effort, just as Linda would have planned it.
