Help Our Mom Beat Rare Stage IV Cancer
Donation protected
Our mom, Linda Herring, needs your support as she battles her recent diagnosis of stage 4 vulvar cancer. Vulvar cancer, or vulval cancer, is a relatively rare type of cancer that affects the vulva, the external genital organs that protect a woman's reproductive system. Her recent diagnosis came as a huge surprise to all of us. Below you will find her treatment plan and how funds raised will be used.
Mom and her grand babies
At this exact time, she is not a candidate for surgery as the tumor is too large and the cancer has spread to the bilateral inguinal lymph nodes and the the anterior pelvic sidewall lymph nodes. The PET scan showed some hyper-metabolic activity on her liver. She will be getting an MRI in the next week or two to see if the cancer has spread to her liver (hepatic metastases) or if it was just a misregistration.
The doctor said it is too late to do surgery as the tumor is too large and it will not get rid of the cancer as it has metastasized. The recommended treatment for now is to start with 9 weeks of chemotherapy. If the tumor shrinks, after the 9 weeks, they will perform surgery to alleviate discomfort, help her feel more comfortable walking and hopefully help stop some of the bleeding. If surgery is possible after her first round of chemo, she will then need a second round of chemotherapy in conjunction with radiation.
Current Treatment Plan
Step 1 - 9 weeks of chemotherapy
Step 2 - Surgery to alleviate discomfort
Step 3 - Chemotherapy/Radiation
First day of Chemo
How will the money raised be used?
Aside from fighting cancer and the depression that comes with it, our mom and family will be dealing with a massive financial burden of chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, doctor visits, medication, and more. Mom was working full-time, but will now be on disability once approved. Our grandparents have already spent close to 8k on medical bills and we hope donations can help lessen the burden. Funds will be used for all medical, travel, and cost of living expenses.
We are super grateful to our grandparents for helping out as much as they can with the beginning medical cost. My sisters and I ask that you donate if you can and/or help us spread the word about her journey on social media. If you would like to write our mom a special note of encouragement feel free to send to this email.
If you have met our mom you know she is a free spirit, energetic, and loving. This setback will not define who she is. "Cancer may have started the fight, but I will finish it.” – gotCancer.org
We know many families are affected by cancer and we appreciate you taking the time to read this and share her story. Thank you in advance, God bless, and please keep our mom in your prayers!
Thank you,
Brooke, Krystal and Kaylaa
