Around 3:16pm, on Feb. 25, 2015, Humboldt Bay Fire department responded to an intense vehicle fire on Koster Street in front of the Holiday Inn Express in Eureka, California. My husband was seen hurriedly trying to free our 1.5 year old red Siberian Husky puppy from the flaming car. He sustained deep second degree burns on both his hands, but was able to save our puppy from dying inside the flaming vehicle. Somehow, through adrenaline rush, he was able to rip open the locked left rear passenger door and Venom fell out. He carried our puppy, Venom across the street where a passerby, John Chrystal, gave her CPR until the fire department and veterinary truck came to resuscitate her. She was brought to the Broadway Pet Hospital where she was put on oxygen.

However, she is still suffering from respiratory issues from inhaling smoke/carbon monoxide. We worry that she will contract chemical pneumonia. There is melted plastic on her ear and fur coat and she needs financial help with urgent exam in x-Rays, catheterization IV, oxygen therapy, radiography, hospitalization, professional care, daily tech care, treatment time, CBC (complete blood count), chem profile, etc. The estimate given only approximates the cost of the 1 visit. It does not include any treatments that may be deemed necessary upon examination and commencement of the included treatments. We need financial assistance in our pet veterinary costs for continued care and assured health for our puppy.

My husband was sent to St. Joseph's Hospital where he was treated for deep second degree burns on his hands. He will not be able to work and the healing may take several weeks to months following with physical therapy.  He is currently uninsured and will not be covered for future prescription outside of charity prescription at this time. He needs financial assistance in covering the medical bills and subsequent physical therapy.

Our 1999 blue Subaru Outback Legacy vehicle, which was our only means of transportation and had valuables inside is currently in a junkyard with the charred remains of what our former life used to be. My husband has an impeccable driver's record; since we had limited liability with our car insurance provider, nothing was covered. We were also unable to salvage any monetary value from our burnt vehicle at the junk yard. It is truly devastating and a shock to us all.

We, as a family are asking for pet veterinary, medical, physical and transportation assistance in the donation of a working used car within the Humbdolt County in Northern California or monetary equivalent to the used car until we can get back on our feet again.

Michael, myself and our dog Venom would also like to extend our gratitude to the Humboldt Bay Fire Department, ER at St. Joseph's Hospital,  and Broadway Pet Hospital for the utmost care and concern of our family at this very vulnerable time. Special thanks to John Chrystal for being the first to resuscitate her and for his generosity. Thank you all in advance for the support and rehabilitation of this family. I am so lucky to have my husband and dog alive.

Blessed,
Linda, Michael & Venom
