On June 26th Lindsay’s condo was struck by lightning which started a devastating fire. She responded quickly and was able to get several neighbors to safety. She lost everything. Her story is below.
There was a pretty devastating fire at my condo last night a little before 930. Lightning struck it and set off everyone's carbon monoxide detectors. Smoke started filling the building as I helped get several of my elderly neighbors out and because of that combined with my asthma I was sent to Upper Chesapeake for smoke inhalation.
They kept me there til about 530am periodically testing the carbon monoxide levels in my blood until it was low enough to release me. My cousin Nicole met me at the hospital and stayed with me all night. I'm back at Aunt & Uncle's house here in Bel Air.
I'm exhausted and feel like a train hit me, but overall I'm happy (and lucky) to be alive. The building has been condemned as the roof collapsed into the third floor, subsequently caving in to the second floor.
Let’s come to together and show our love for Lindsay and her brave actions. Every little bit helps.
Fire Update: upon further inspection, the firewall between building 1309 and 1311 (Lindsay’s building) has twisted, thus a secondary building engineer was hired to determine if the building needs to be bulldozed completely down and rebuilt. That has resulted in a projected 18 months-ish timeline before Lindsay will be able to move back into her home. While she does have insurance, it does not cover the full financial impact that this has had on her. The photos are what her condo building looks like as a result. The first few show what her living room looked like from her front door- the contractors had to create a new entrance through the wall in the spare bedroom to gain entry and begin removing all the debris. The second and third pictures are a ground level view and a third level view (respectively) of what was once her living room, now has the base of the cherry picker in it. I am reopening the Go Fund Me with a new financial goal and hope that we can all pull together and help Lindsay out in this incredibly trying time.
