Love for Linds

Sharing Lindsay’s story to you all is an incredible honor. She is a beautiful mama to Kiana (9) and Wesley (2). She is a wife-to-be to her immensely loving & supportive fiancé Matt. She is an insanely talented hair stylist. She is an amazing friend. And so many of us are honored to get to work along side her at weddings and photo shoots with her company Girl Meets Bongga - making brides, models and basically anyone & everyone completely gorgeous with her touch. Lindsay has been battling cancer for the last 9 months. She has the most positive attitude on beating this. She is fierce.

On January 7th Lindsay went in to the hospital after her CT scan showed that she had cancer in multiple areas of her body. She spent 5 days in the hospital getting scan after test after scan, as the doctors tried to determine if she had ovarian or colon cancer.  After a biopsy was taken during a colonoscopy, Lindsay and her family received the devastating news that not only did she did in fact have colon cancer but it was already stage IV and had spread to the left ovary and liver.

This diagnosis is seen as incurable in the medical world. The doctors told Lindsay not to focus on that because there had been so many advances in medicine and people who have been cured of stage IV colon cancer, so she put on her positive pants and decided to fight this thing head on ever since! She had to have a stint put into the left utterer to relieve the pressure on her kidney from the tumor in her colon pressing up against it. She also had a port put into her chest to prepare her for the months of chemotherapy she would endure. She started chemo in February and has been going every other week since. She spends 2 hours in the clinic receiving the medication, and then she has to take home a device that pumps the chemo into her body for an additional 46 hours… Including sleeping with it.

Lindsay's body has been responding incredibly well to the chemo, although doctors have warned her that she’s reaching the marker where the cancers becomes smarter and finds ways around the therapy. Hopefully that won’t happen!! Since her levels have gone down so much and the CT scans have shown that her tumors are shrinking, her oncologist felt it was time to to consider surgery. On August 26th Lindsay underwent a 7.5 hour surgery to remove all of the visible tumors and perform a heated chemo wash directly on her abdomen. They removed her colon mass, reconstructed her utterer, took out both ovaries, her appendix, the small mass on her liver and a spot they saw on her small intestine. This procedure is done in hopes to cure the patient. The percentage is low of those who are completely cured, but the surgery will extend her life at the very least. In Lindsay’s case, her doctor feels confident that they removed all of her cancer. We are awaiting more test results for a definitive answer.

As I’m sure you all can imagine, or unfortunately know personally, this experience is incredibly financially taxing on Lindsay and Matt. Lindsay has had to leave the busy salon where she was working and book a limited amount of weddings & photo shoots this season as she endured an exhausting chemo schedule. Any amount of support helps them tremendously to recover from the influx of medical bills, so that she can remain completely focused on her continued fight, recovery from surgery and especially her babies and fiancé.

To all of the people that have continued to support Linds, sent love, positive vibes, and prayer - she THANKS YOU!!!

Help spread the word!!

Sincerely, Hallie Slade
