Lindsey's Story:
In early November of 2022, Lindsey and Kurtis were very excited to find out that Lindsey was pregnant, and they were ready to start their family. Unfortunately, Lindsey found out weeks later that she had a miscarriage. During this time, Lindsey had noticed a lump on her breast. She informed her doctor multiple times of this lump, but it was chalked up to a swollen lymph node, likely from her pregnancy. Lindsey knew that something else was wrong and, being an advocate for
herself pushed for further testing and answers.
Following an ultrasound, MRI, and biopsy, Lindsey’s worst fears were confirmed. She was officially diagnosed with stage III triple-negative ductal carcinoma, on February 6, 2023.
Lindsey started her first round of chemotherapy at the University of Minnesota Masonic Center just days later as time was of the essence. The plan for Lindsey so far is to have 16 rounds of chemotherapy, followed by a double mastectomy, axillary lymph node dissection, and then radiation.
For all of us who know Lindsey, we know she has amazing positive energy and an
optimistic outlook on life. She is the life of the party; she loves to laugh and to have a good time. She is passionate about her work and helping others. Although this has been extremely hard on Lindsey, Kurtis, and their family and friends, she has continued to stay positive and fight with everything she has. There of course will be bumps in the road, but Lindsey will continue to push through them as she has done so far.
Lindsey has not been able to work due to the side effects from her chemo treatments and this is just the beginning of a very long and challenging cancer battle. As you can imagine, living on one income while trying to pay for all the medical and personal expenses, and cosmetic needs, such as a cooling cap, is incredibly challenging.
Any help during this heartbreaking and difficult time is greatly appreciated.
