LINDSEY'S LYMPHEDEMA BIRTHDAY FUNDRAISER
Lindsey Sosvec is an athlete and and an intellectual as well as one of my best friends and partners in adventure. She's a surviving cancer patient who has endured many challenges with her recovery. Three years after her cancer surgery and removal of lymph nodes Lindsey contracted Lymphedema.
Lymphedema refers to massive swelling that has occurred in Lindseys right leg. Lymphedema is most commonly caused by the removal of or damage to your lymph nodes as a part of cancer treatment. It results from a blockage in your lymphatic system, which is part of your immune system. The blockage prevents lymph fluid from draining well, and the fluid buildup leads to swelling.
While there is presently no cure for lymphedema, it can be managed with early diagnosis and diligent care of the affected limb.
Recently as part of her active lifestyle she had some unexpected trauma. She broke her tibial plateau in January while doing what she loves, skiing in Jackson, WY. March is National Lymphedema month and Lindsey, in partnership with Juzo compression, is a leading figure in encouraging Lymphedema patients to stay active and create new definitions of what is possible with this condition.
As part of her recovery from Lymphedema Lindsey's has a consultation on March 24-26, 2020 in California for Lymphedema treatment with Dr. Jay Granzow. https://lymphedemasurgeon.com/ He created the FLOSM Lymphedema treatment system, the first of its kind in the world, incorporating Lymphedema surgeries and therapy to successfully target each stage of Lymphedema.
None of these consultations or treatments are currently covered by insurance. This treatment will enable her to continue to lead an active life full of adventure and continuing her work as a personal trainer. The consultation itself is $2,000 and assuming Lindsey qualifies for treatment, the cost will depend on Dr. Granzows recommendation but she is expecting the next stage to cost between $25,000- $35,000. We will keep you posted after the consultation on the additional cost break down.

As we know, Lindsey is the "Master of Resilience." She has been on crutches for 6 weeks and she is paving the way for what is possible when injuring a Lymphedema limb. Lymphedema is not curable, however she is hoping this procedure will help her continue her work, adventure and active lifestyle. She is still keeping the smile and positivity that we all love.
