Clean water supply to Naiviivi Village

Hello and Bula,

I am writing this on behalf of my close friend, Pasilio, in Naiviivi Village, Qamea Island, Fiji. Pasilio (Pa) lives with his family in Naiviivi Village. Pa is also on the committee responsible for the village's water supply. Recently, the village has experienced severe water shortages. The local spring cannot keep up with the growing demand every dry season. Water shortages have become increasingly critical each year, as extreme weather events tend to come more often and be more extreme. The village has been reduced to turning the water supply on for only 1 hour daily. In these periods of water shortage, the tank's water pressure is very weak and slow. Between 6am and 7am, all households and the school must collect water in containers and utilise that water for the next 24 hours. The lack of clean running water severely impacts the community's drinking, washing, cooking, cleaning, health and hygiene requirements. The current spring that is supplying the village is no longer sustainable. Pa has discovered a much better spring to supply the village. This new spring is almost 3 kilometres from the village. Due to recent events, the economy (hugely affected by tourism) on the outer islands of Fiji is still suffering. The village has the labour force and the willingness to undertake the work needed to link the new spring to its storage tanks. The problem they have is no funds available to purchase the hardware required to complete the connection. Pa has provided an invoice and details for the materials and the transportation costs to Naiviivi. I propose to collect funds from donors and send the funds to the village, allowing the Naiviivi Village Water Committee to complete this work as soon as possible. The impact of this work will be a profound improvement to the health of the whole Naiviivi community. This will be a permanent solution to their water security concerns and will continue to benefit future generations' overall well-being. I hope you will join me in this very positive project.
