Lisa Agnew's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Hi and thank you for visiting our page. My name is Leslie, and I am the big sister to Lisa, who is the beautiful lady in the far left family picture with my dad and sisters, which was taken during better times. I never thought I would have ever been in this situation, but our family is in desperate need to help fund Lisa's recovery and bring her back to us.
Imagine you wake up one day, at the age of 51 and have lost your short-term memory. Not your typical situation where you forget where you put your car keys or glasses. Lisa forgot how to get places, where she was supposed to be, how to do basic things and, more importantly, what she did that morning or an hour before.
After multiple hospital visits and meeting with neurologists, Lisa was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune virus: https://aealliance.org/, which caused swelling in her brain and TOTAL loss of short-term memory. Today the Lisa that we knew and loved is no longer there. Up until October of last year, Lisa was a perfectly healthy 51-year-old. She had a new job she loved after being out of work for many months during Covid and was finally getting out of a bad marriage.
FINALLY, after months and months of researching options, meeting with medical professionals, dealing with insurance, etc... we have finally found the best recovery program that will give her ANY chance of a life...and they will not accept her insurance!
This program is the only hope we have...and ONLY option that deals with neurological rehabilitation aggressively. Having to pay out of pocket is impossible! But is the only choice we have.
Lisa is facing multiple months of inpatient rehabilitation and then continued outpatient. She has a long road ahead, and the future is still unknown. But we can't give up and need to do all we can in getting her the help she needs.
Autoimmune Encephalitis is a devastating disease. The trauma is real. The impact is shattering. If anything, I hope this plea educates others on what this terrible disease is and how it can take over a healthy person’s life in a second.
If you can, we ask you to please donate to help ease her future financial burden as she continues through this recovery journey. We also ask that you please pray for her strength and ours in the difficult road that lies ahead.
