Lisa Hanson Memorial Fund
Donation protected
Hello Everyone,
This GoFundMe campaign is to raise funds for my mom, Lisa Hanson. All funds will go towards funeral expenses, headstone costs, and any additional funds will go to any medical expenses due to her extended stay at West Allis Memorial Hospital.
A HUGE thank you to all of the doctors, nurses and phone operators at WAMH who looked after Lisa during this incredibly difficult time for everyone. Without them, Lisa never stood a chance to hang on and fight this long.
Lisa passed away on January 21st in the company of her Son Kevin & Wife Erika, (via video chat), Husband Robert, Sister Vicky, and Mother Kathleen. After battling Covid19 and its related illnesses for roughly a month, compounded with pre-existing conditions, the decision was made to end care and to allow her to pass on peacefully with the comfort of her loving family surrounding her.
For those who may not know, Lisa was diagnosed with Covid-19 on December 18th and was home for a few days before going to the ER on the 22nd with complications. She spent roughly two weeks admitted to the hospital fighting Covid independently. The decision was made to move her to the ICU, where she spent another week. During this time, she was fully awake and functional but needed additional machines to help her fight. She spent time video chatting with friends and family and making the nurses laugh and laugh while telling goofy stories or talking about her son, "the one who works at Best Buy in Minnesota, with the dog" After a week in the ICU (January 12th), she was put on a ventilator to help her oxygen levels, among other things.
The diagnosis was grim, but Lisa kept fighting. 2 short days after being put on the ventilator, Robert and Kevin were told she most likely wouldn't make it through the weekend. They held out hope and begged friends and family for a miracle and prayers.
Lisa would fight for another week before the diagnosis changed from hopeful to a bit more serious. Even with the machines running at 100%, Lisa's levels started to fall, and fall quickly to where she had hours, maybe 24-48 at the most.
Robert and Kevin were faced with making the most challenging decision they'd ever had to make. Thinking with Lisa's best interest in mind, knowing what she's said in the past about "not wanting to live like that," and so on. They decided to gather immediate family and end care.
Robert, Kevin, Vicky, Vince and Kathleen arrived at the hospital Friday (1/21) around 4:30 pm. Spoke to the doctors and nursing staff to get a status update. Shortly after, the hospital priest came by, said a few prayers, talked to the family and the nursing staff removed the machines.
Roughly 20 minutes later, Lisa would pass on peacefully surrounded by her loved ones around 5:45 pm.
As anyone who knew her, she was light-hearted, witty, sassy at times and most of all, caring. She put everyone else first and did her best to ensure everyone around her felt welcome. Her only child, Kevin, was her pride and joy, and she made darn sure everyone knew it.
Her husband, Robert, was the best thing that had ever happened to her. Robert cared for her long before the pandemic started and never stopped once. His dedication to constantly providing for and loving her unconditionally is admirable and serves as an example for others.
Thank you all for the time to read this, and if you're able, to donate. If you're unable, please share the link with others to reach our goal and ensure one of the sweetest, most loving people can be laid to rest with the care and love she so greatly deserves.
It truly means the world to every member of the family.
