Please Help Give Lisa ‘The Send Off’ She Deserves.
Lisa’s Story.
Hi, my name is Karen, I’m Lisa’s Auntie.
I’m writing this appeal on behalf of Lisa’s children, in the hope you may consider helping our brokenhearted family, to raise money to help give Lisa the funeral she deserves.
Lisa (Price/Kenny) is the eldest child of Beverly & Malcolm. She’s a much cherished Mother of Josh, Charlotte and Ella. She is a much loved sister to Lee, devoted ‘Arna’ to her nephew and niece Elias & Averie-Star and she is my funny, caring beautiful niece.
Our darling girl has had a tough life since the age of 30, when she found her self spending life as a one parent family with a two year, four year and a seven year old.
Lisa had to sell her home and found herself in a situation not of her making.
Lisa had great emotional support from her wonderful parents, which she so appreciated.
Over the years Lisa struggled with a painful knee condition and had several operations.
Then at the age of 37, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. This came as a devastating blow but in true ‘Lisa style’ she held her head high and got on with fighting her illness. She did this with bravery and courage. She had the support of her wonderful children, her much loved parents, Beverly and Malcolm and her younger brother Lee.
Although Lisa’s treatment wasn’t without its problems, she battled through and eventually got the all clear.
Lisa continued her life as a devoted single mother, and a much loved auntie to Lee’s children Elias & Averie-Star. Lisa would love to have Lee’s children, helping out when Lee was working. Elias and Averie-Star loved their ‘Arna’, their special name for their much loved and devoted Auntie. She was a second mum to the children.
Lisa was so grateful to be clear of her illness and was determined to enjoy life!
Money was always tight with the absence of a husband and the children’s father but Lisa had her family and her friends and made the most of what she had.
Despite Lisa’s situation and lack of financial security, she was the first person to offer a helping hand to anyone in need.
She offered a home and shelter to friends on more than one occasion, when they found themselves homeless. She would give her last pound to a anyone, who was in financial difficulty or to a friend who couldn’t afford to get her car fixed when it broke down.
If she had money in her purse and you needed it, she’d happily give you it.
These are things about my niece I’m only hearing now, as she wouldn’t be the one to disclose this information.
Devastatingly 4.5 years after getting the all clear From her first bout of cancer, sadly the cancer returned.
Once again Lisa took on the challenge with fight and gusto. Her courage knew no ends.
When her hair began to fall out due to the chemotherapy, Lisa decided to shave her hair off herself, this was the hairdresser in her, coming out. To show support for what Lisa was going through her father, her brother Lee, her friend and her cousin Kerry, who was pregnant at the time, all shaved their heads too, showing solidarity at what was a very difficult time.
Lisa had a terrible time undergoing the challenge of treatment and a double mastectomy but once again, she won this, her 2nd battle with cancer.
Lisa didn’t have the money to go on beautiful holidays or enjoy some of the luxuries many are able to afford. So after her second round of treatment and to aid her recovery, unbeknown to Lisa, her family and friends rallied and collected enough money to Pay for her airfare to Dubai, to stay with her cousin, my son Daniel, who lives there.
Lisa enjoyed a wonderful holiday staying with Daniel. She swam with dolphins, soaked up the culture, loved the food and enjoyed some of what UAE has to offer. As it turns out, it was her one and only holiday of a lifetime.
Life was picking up!
Lisa Trained and worked as a hairdresser for many years. She did various jobs such as caring, in a nursing home however, when she returned from Dubai, she got a job in a pharmacy and worked her way up to supervisor. She enjoyed her job and liked her colleagues and the customers.
Sadly , Lisa began suffering with her health again but this time, she was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.
Some days she’d have no energy at all and was unable to leave her bed. So she was forced by ill health, to reduce her hours. However, with continued poor health, sadly and eventually, Lisa gave up her much loved job.
Lisa continued suffering bouts of illness that kept her confined to her bed, sometimes for days at a time. However that didn’t stop her helping to care for her grandfather, when he contracted his second bout of cancer and eventually sadly passed away in June 2021.
Lisa, the eldest of eight grandchildren, was very close to her grandparents, so she stepped in to help her grandmother.
Then in September 2022, we were again faced with bereavement. Lisa’s grandmother was taken into hospital. She was in hospital for 7 weeks. We became so concerned about the poor care mum was receiving in hospital, Lisa elected to stay overnight with her. Thank goodness she did as sadly that night, Lisa’s grandmother passed away. Thanks to Lisa, she wasn’t alone, but she found this a very traumatic experience.
Lisa continued with her stiff upper lip and her resilience, however the experience of seeing her grandparents passing, stayed with her.
Lisa recently gave up eating meat and was eating really healthily. She began losing weight. She looked great.
She had just turned 48 in june this year.
On her mum Beverly’s birthday later the same month, my husband and I commented on how well and fabulous Lisa looked. She looked healthy and was her usual happy self.
LISA WAS NEVER WITHOUT A SMILE!
Sadly none of us realised that this would be the last birthdays she would she would celebrate.
A few short weeks later, after a number of prolonged episodes of sickness and diarrhoea, Lisa went into hospital. She was suffering from jaundice. Lisa had tests and after two or three days, Lisa’s condition began to worsen.
Devastatingly, Lisa received the news that the cancer was back. She had ‘ lesions’ on her liver and on her bones. She was diagnosed with secondaries and told her condition was incurable.
Lisa was broken. She expressed to me, with sadness, that she wouldn’t be around to help support her adored children or see them settled.
She also wouldn’t get to meet her Grandchildren.
This broke our hearts.
Lisa lost her brave and extremely courageous battle late on Monday 19th August 2024.
She leaves behind; Ella age 19, Charlotte 21 who are now going to live with their grandparents and her eldest child Josh 24.
Her parents and her children were with her constantly night and day.
Her self employed son Josh, lost earnings for the time he spent with his mother and Charlotte and Ella, having not been long in their jobs, so do not get paid during their compassionate leave from work.
Because of this they have not only suffered the loss of their much loved mother but also loss of earnings for the many weeks they cared for her, resulting in further hardship.
Lisa’s funeral and interment costs, are estimated to cost in the region of £11,000.
This is made up of approximately £5000 funeral costs, £3,308 for interment plot, £500+ for interment urn, £2,000+ memorial stone.
This is why we ask for your help. Your donations would help give Lisa the decent funeral and final resting place she so rightly deserves. It will also lighten the burden on Lisa’s family for which we will all be eternally grateful.
