Lisa Schilling and Lily Arguello

Hello, my name is Annette Vasquez. I am sister to Aaron Arguello, sister-in-law to Lisa Schilling and Aunt to Lily Arguello.
On July 15, 2022, a devastating deadly flash flood took the lives of Lisa Schilling (Mother) and Lily Arguello (Daughter) at our family Land. My Brother Aaron, husband to Lisa and father to Lily, had his entire life taken from him in a matter of minutes.
"Our Land," as we called it, was a place we would spend our summers. It was a place we grew up; it was a place we both introduced our spouses to. We created our own families, and our kids like us grew up here. This place was special; it was our therapy. We could spend countless hours together uninterrupted by technology, phone calls or the city's life.
Two years ago, it burned in the Cameron Peak Fire. Since then, all of us (my parents, my brothers, and my family) have been eager to return to our land. We were finally able to bring our trailers the weekend before in preparation for a several-day trip up there the following weekend. Aaron, Lisa, Lily, my son Isaiah and I arrived on Wednesday. Like before, it was therapy; we played games, cooked, hiked, and did work around camp. It was what we needed!!!
Our father, Jerry arrived Friday afternoon as the rain was starting. It rained so much that the creek had risen a few inches in a short amount of time. The rain had passed, and we were thankful for that as we did not want any more water to come down. Then this loud rumble of a cracking sound was heard, and we looked up the creek to see a mountain of trees, rocks, mud and water rushing toward us. In a moment, the trailer where Lisa, Lily and their two dogs were, was swept away and overtaken by the rush of the flood. Lisa and Lily both recovered from the creek early that evening. Aaron, Jerry, Isaiah and myself were rescued from the mountain late that evening.
As a family, Arguello's/Schillings/Vasquez, we all need support and are reaching out to our community of friends/family to help.
Lisa Schilling - Was a 4th-grade teacher for Jefferson County Schools. For the past five years, she worked at Dean Elementary and was transferring to Bear Creek Elementary. Teaching was her passion, she loved her students and loved the work she did. Lisa was a kind-hearted person who always saw the positive in life. She loved her mom, dad, sisters, niece and nephews. She was happy when she was able to spend time with them. She was a best friend who was inspiring. She loved her family. The three of them were happy and loved the adventures that they were creating together.
Liliana Arguello - LOVED BILLIE EILISH!!! She attended Deer Creek Middle School and would be entering the 8th grade. Her 13th Birthday was just around the corner on the 27th of July. She had friends who she loved to spend time with and have sleepovers. Lily enjoyed being on the swim team and participating in choir. She was an artist in many ways, drawing, singing, and playing the piano and ukulele. She was raised close with her cousins, who were more like big brothers to her. Like her mom, she was kind-hearted. Both she and her mom were taken too soon. Lily had so much life to live and so many more lives to touch.
Lisa and Lily are survived by - Aaron Arguello, Helen & Scott Ritter, Sandy Riggle (and family), Rebecca Ball (and husband), Sierra Alder (and wife), Fran and Jerry Arguello, Vasquez family, as well as numerous family and friends.
We all have a long road to recovery, and this fund will help with ongoing expenses for all the families.
With love Arguello, Schilling, Ritters and Vasquez family
