Help Lisa Fight Cancer
Donation protected
Lisa Knoll is an incredible and extremely generous person who has given back so much in our community through her work with DCS, battered women, and fundraisers for many community causes.
In mid July, Lisa started experiencing extreme fatigue and a high continuous heart rate. She went to the hospital where she was admitted for a possible GI bleed and severe anemia. An endoscopy confirmed she had a bleeding ulcer and the cause of the ulcer due to a tumor. She was discharged after a blood transfusion with a follow up endoscopy with ultrasound to get a closer look at the tumor later that week.
The tumor was found to be a malignant Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST). GIST is a rare form of gastrointestinal cancer. Lisa's tumor is located in the duodenum, which is the first section of the small intestine . Lisa is scheduled for duodenal resection on Wednesday, August 14th. She will initially be in ICU and will be in the hospital for approximately a week. A more in depth pathology will be done on the tumor once it is removed. This will help to determine the risk of re-occurrence and the next course of action.
Her treatment will likely span two calendar years which will require them to pay their high deductible twice. Her insurance company will not cover all the genetic testing of the tumor needed to determine to particular mutation. It is also likely that her insurance will not cover the Chemotherapy treatment because of the rare form of cancer.
The GoFundMe donations will provide financial relief and support for Lisa and her family, and directly assist with medical bills and lost income for both Lisa and Shane due to missed time at work.
The Knoll family would love your prayers and support during this challenging time.
