Hello, My Name is Michael Podolak. On Tuesday, January 24th, 2023, My dear and loving sister suffered a large stroke at home. She was subsequently airlifted from Stevens Point Wisconsin to the neurology section of the UW Madison hospital. After numerous scans (CT, MRI,) it was deemed necessary to perform an emergency craniectomy to relieve pressure on her brain. After approximately 1 week of numerous phone calls between myself and others with the medical professionals at the hospital's ICU unit, the family and close friends were asked to gather by phone or otherwise to discuss the future care for her. At this meeting, new information was told to us concerning the seriousness of her situation. She had suffered a second stroke deeper in her brain, not just the original located in the cerebellum. During her stay at the Hospital, her ability to move and her cognitive skills were on a steep decline. The pressure on her brain did not subside from the emergency surgery. It was at this meeting after information was given, family and friends were allowed to ask questions and were politely told about palliative care, as she is not expected to improve on any level. The decision was lovingly made to do just that, on Wednesday, February 1st, 2023. She will pass relatively soon after life saving ventilation is discontinued, quietly and pain-free. This fundraiser is being created to aid her, and her family to frankly, finance her funeral expenses, leftover medical expenses after insurance, and her day-to-day home and pet care expenses.
