Lisa's Fight Against Ovarian Cancer

Donation protected
2015 was a year of great challenges and great progress for our family...Katie successfully completed her treatments for breast cancer, while Lisa and Angela took on the prophylactic surgeries that doctors advised to help decrease their risk of developing breast and ovarian cancers due to BRCA 1. We were all looking forward to 2016, ready to move forward into healing. Then, just 10 days before Christmas, while Lisa was undergoing her preventative hysterectomy, it was discovered that she had stage 1c ovarian cancer.

We've all heard that “God works in mysterious ways.” Well, this is no exception. Katie's battle with breast cancer brought all of us sisters to being tested and found to be positive for the BRCA 1 gene mutation. In the process of being proactive in this battlefield, Lisa's cancer was found at a very rare, early stage. Often times referred to as “the silent killer,” ovarian cancer is usually not discovered until later stages, making it very difficult to overcome. Lisa will be the first to tell you how truly blessed she is that it was caught so early.

For all of you who know Lisa, you know that she is not the kind of person to ask for help... she is the kind of person who loves to give help! As a nanny/caregiver all of her life, beginning with caring for her younger sisters, then other families children, and now her three teenage boys, caring for others is her gift. Well, this is our turn to care for her, our chance to show her the love and support she's always given to so many.

Friends and family, we're reaching out to you for prayers and support in this difficult time. The upcoming months will include chemo, many doctor appointments and procedures. As she spends her time focused on healing, unable to work, her family will need all the love, prayers and support that we're able to provide. Prayers of strength and healing for her and for her husband Rick and sons, Sam, Noah and Max.

2016 may not be the “easy” year that we had hoped for, but with Lisa's incredible strength and positive attitude, we know that it will be a year of great feats. She is ready to fight this battle - and with the continued love and support from all of us - she will win! Thank you so much for being an important part of Lisa's healing!
