Little Elijah Pocha needs help!
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kathy Proudfoot and I am fundraising to help the parents of 20 month old Elijah Pocha, as he battles a very rare form of difistulizing crohn's disease.
The issues that the doctors are having is that the drug treatment that would be assigned to this diagnosis wont work being that it is such a rare case and in someone this young the disease acts completely differently and they cannot figure out the pathway that is causing all of this.
Doctors are doing genetic testing to figure out what therapy could work for him, but these tests take 6 months to get results. They only have one other option after this therapy that might work. This is a parents worst nightmare…. not knowing if their precious child can be me made well.
Elijah’s parents, Murray and Emily Pocha live in Cranbrook BC and have to travel to 1000 kms away to take Elijah to Vancouver Children’s Hospital, where they must stay in the hospital with their 4 month old baby as well.
The Pocha family wanted to keep this private, until this nightmare journey led them to a place where they didn’t know what to do… and that’s when they reached out to me for help.
Even with the resources and organizations providing some financial assistance, the Pocha family has to spend $800-$1000 for each trip to Vancouver. When they are at home, they must pay $1700 per month just for Elijah's feeding tube supplies.
Elijah requires 24 hour supervision, which coupled with a 4 month old baby, makes it too hard for the mom, Emily to care for her children alone. The father, Murray had to leave his job and drop out of medical school, so that he can help care for the children and be a support for his very exhausted wife.
Instead of getting better, Elijah’s condition continues to worsen. In my mind, it is unacceptable that in this day and age in British Columbia that parents must go through such financial hardship, by having a sick child!
Please help support this very deserving young family and donate today!
Together we can make a difference and hopefully one day change the medical financial system, so that no parent has to struggle when their children are very sick.
Huge thank you to all who support this very sick little boy and help take some pressure off of his overwhelmed parents.
