"A person's actions will tell you everything you need to know about them, pay attention" - Joe Mehl.
My name is Kanapali Blackwood, and my name is Kurtis Glenn. Here is our story.
Have you ever done something, and when you look back, you wondered what you were thinking? Well, we have.
Unknowingly, our defenseless small dogs, Little Girl, 5-year-old Toy Poodle (my emotional support animal), and Lewie, 14-year-old Shih Zhu (family dog), were physically abused for months by a person I thought was my close friend. Kurtis and I opened our home to this friend, not expecting anything in return. We figured since this friend worked in law enforcement, a trusted profession, why second guess that they would ever intentionally harm our dogs, right? But we were wrong. For five months, this person lived with us. This person is no longer a friend and is referred to as "The Abuser" throughout our story.

We are thankful for our Ring camera, which opened our eyes to an ugly truth on May 8, 2024. Around 7 PM, we left the house; I left for work, and Kurtis went to get dog treats from the store. The Ring camera showed that "The Abuser" was preying on our precious dogs, Little Girl and Lewie, as "The Abuser" kept eyeing them in the corner once Kurtis and I left the house. Out of fear, both dogs attempted to run upstairs for safety as they were disinterested in "The Abuser ." Little Girl darted upstairs first, and Lewie trailed behind her. Before Lewie can make it up the stairs, "The Abuser" abruptly hops off the sofa and intentionally kicks Lewie into the wall (he is okay, thank God) before Lewie can reach the stairs. Our dogs thought they were safe in the upstairs loft, which also has a Ring Camera. "The Abuser" approached our upstairs loft with a bathroom metal curtain rod to hurt our little defenseless dogs. Before the attack, "The Abuser" attempted to hide the metal curtain rod behind his back and flipped the Ring camera in a downward position. For approximately 20 - 30 seconds, we could hear the struggle and "The Abuser" maliciously striking Little Girl with the metal curtain rod. Even though we could not see what occurred, we could hear the struggle of Little Girl screaming for her life several times. "The Abuser" flipped the camera around, singing and acting like nothing had happened. Moments later, we saw Little Girl severely limping and unable to jump on the couch as she was not bearing weight on her left back leg. Little Girl's left back leg looked like it was snapped in half as it dangled when she walked. Kurtis questioned, "The Abuser" when he arrived home as Lewie was shaking tremendously in the kitchen corner. Little Girl was nowhere to be found. "The Abuser" stated he did not know the dogs' whereabouts and was unaware of Little Girl's broken foot as he continued to twirl the weapon he abused Little Girl with. I left work as soon as I received the message from Kurtis about Little Girl's injury. "The Abuser" was questioned again but continued to feed us lies about their sinister actions, even though we had evidence on our Ring camera.
We did not feel safe in our home. Kurtis and I were scared. If you can hurt our little ones, you can also hurt us, and we did not want to take a chance. Police were called.
Per the vet, Little Girl's left back ankle was broken due to the heinous attack by "The Abuser." Little Girl will need to undergo a surgical procedure called arthrodesis to fuse the joints of her foot, and physical therapy (PT). The worst option is to have her leg amputated (last resort).
We are beyond mortified as our little ones did not deserve this. This incident prompted us to review our camera footage further, and we found more evidence that this behavior has been going on far longer than we realized. Animal cruelty is a crime. This sick behavior is a red flag and should never be ignored; the world needs to know about it.
Unfortunately, "The Abuser" did not show any remorse for their actions and fled the state days later, leaving our family with sorrow and a $4,000 burden.
Please help Little Girl. Please help us. Any donation is greatly appreciated as it will be used to fund Little Girl's surgery, PT, and additional medical expenses.
Paw-sitively grateful,
Kanapali, Kurtis, Little Girl, & Lewie
