Little Levi has Pneumonia

Hi, my name is Lylie, and I am fundraising to help my daughter and her family cover costs while they are at the Alberta Childrens Hospital with my grandson Levi. They remain there while he tries to recover from Pneumonia and multiple complications that have taken place since he arrived. Levi is a 2.5-year-old twin of the amazing Jacob and Levi Duo. He has become the talk of the Alberta Children's Hospital as "the most stoic 2 yr. old any of them has ever seen". He is strong, comedic, loving, and a true force. We remain grateful for all the prayers, blessings, texts, calls, messages being sent their way already, it is helped with their spirits more than you will ever know. Here is our story that began 2 weeks ago.

 

Levi was in Cochrane with his twin Jacob, his mom (Santana) and his dad (Theo) while Theo helped a friend build a deck. While there, Levi began to get extremely sick with fevers over 101, pain, coughing, and vomiting. They took him to urgent care a few times, and eventually, they had to take him to Calgary to the Alberta Children's Hospital. After ultrasounds and X-rays that determined he had pneumonia with fluid building in his lungs he was admitted. They tried multiple things to avoid any surgery on our little guy. Eventually, the only decision was to administer an anesthetic and insert a draining tube into Levi's left lung, which remains today. Their "4-day trip" began to stretch into weeks, with no "home day" even offered except to say, as of today, that it would be at least another week.

 

While Levi has drained hundreds of ml’s of fluid from his lungs, he started to develop other symptoms. He was not eating, losing weight, and fevers come and go. Oxygen levels plummet to 84 (Over 95 is good, 90-95 is bad), and then he must wear his oxygen tube on his face, which he HATES. Only his mom, dad, and the medical team are allowed in the room. He has had up to 7 doctors in with him on multiple occasions trying to figure out what is happening. Teams from all areas are trying to help our boy. Lung doctors, radiologists, infectious disease doctors, and more. Multiple IV's and ultrasounds and blood work and X-Rays have taken place. All the poking and prodding does not stop. He now has a mysterious bacterial infection that they have yet to determine what it is or where it came from. Strong doses of antibiotics were given through the IV but then he had a severe reaction to that, which began a whole new stream of problems.

 

While all of this is happening, they cannot be with their other boy and Levi and Jacob are separated for the first time in their little lives. This emotional roller coaster of that and of things looking up then worse, then up then worse....it is too much to bear. Now covering mortgage, buying food while away, prescription costs to come, bills piling up at home are becoming a concern.

 

Neither Theo nor Santana can work and bring in an income, and with Theo running his own construction company (him being the lone worker), they cannot even collect EI. No income coming in, but bills DO keep coming in. The LAST thing they need to worry about is how they will make all their payments.

 

We as a family obviously are doing what we can yet we cannot do it all. Multiple people have asked how they can help, and we are saying this is how. Please help us unburden them of the monetary concerns so they can focus on little Levi and being there with him. FaceTime is helping Jacob in the meantime see his Mommy and Daddy and best friend Levi, while they are away.
