Little Lungs, Big Fight: Support Levi's NICU Journey

At 3am on January 14th, Cassidy and Kevin welcomed sweet baby Levi Frederick Miller into the world weighing 7lb and 2oz. At first, mom and baby were doing great and enjoying some skin to skin and cuddles. It wasn't until Levi started grunting and had some discoloration that the doctors noticed something was wrong.

Levi was born very quickly so he ingested a ton of amniotic fluid causing his lungs to become very wet, called transient tachypena, and because he was born 2.5 weeks early, they fear his lungs were not fully developed causing the transient tachypena to put him into respiratory distress. From there, things spiraled pretty quickly. Levi developed double pneumothoraces, which means both of his lungs collapsed and he was not holding oxygen. He also developed pulmonary hypertension causing distress on his heart and lungs. As a result, sweet Levi was placed on a ventilator and had 3 chest tubes placed. The ventilator is breathing for him and the chest tubes hope to help release any air that gets released into his chest cavity. Levi is also being fed through a feeding tube, as well as many other monitors, IVs and tubes in his sweet precious little body.

As you can imagine, this was not how Cassidy and Kevin expected the first week of Levi's life to go. They are so incredibly strong, but are met with new challenges every day. They are doing their best to care for Levi and their bigs at home as well going back and forth and doing it all. The emotional, mental and physical stress of it all is more than any parent should ever have to bear.

We have no idea when Levi will be getting out of the NICU or what the next few weeks/months will look like for him and for their family unit. As such, I wanted to start this gofundme to try to ease some of the burden on them. Medical bills should be the last thing on their mind as they watch their baby boy fight for his life. If you feel compelled to donate in any way, our family would appreciate it immensely, but if you don't or if that's not something you can do right now, prayers and love to the Miller family are just as appreciated and needed.

Thank you for the bottom of our hearts. Keep fighting baby Levi-- this precious boy has gone through more in one week than most people do in their lifetime.

Cassidy and Kevin are understandably overwhelmed and have a lot on their plates.
