Joshua - our Son, Grandson, Nephew and Great-Nephew - was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia at the age of 8 in March 2021.
During Joshua's admissions at hospital so far, he has had need to borrow clothes due his treatments making him feel very poorly. He has fluctuated significantly weight, gaining so much in the beginning he went up a clothes size and then losing so much later on he needed new clothes again. To give some perspective, Joshua lost 15% of his original body weight within 6 weeks at that time. Obviously we had to sort out a whole new wardrobe for him each time as none of his clothes fit. But sadly our experience is not unique.
Lots of children and teenagers undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other treatments for childhood cancer will experience extreme fluctuations in their weight and require new clothes. They will likely experience extreme sickness and whilst an inpatient have limited access to clean, comfortable clothes.
