Help little "Kiki" walk again

Donation protected
Hi! We are identical twin girls looking for help with our puppy “Kiki”.

Precious Kiki

Kiki is a five-month-old loving and playful terrier mixed we adopted from the Hawaiian Humane Society only five weeks ago (Feb 2015). We weren’t looking in finding another dog since we already had a 5yr old spaniel mixed named Chess, but it was love at first sight. She looked so small, shy, and in need of protection that we had to bring her home.

Kiki is very special and has the same sweet personality and temperament as our dog Chess. With the help of our parents, we had trained Chess at home and now he is a volunteer therapy dog that brings joy to care homes, hospitals, rehab centers and much more.

We had already started to teach Kiki many things. She is a very smart puppy, in only a couple of weeks, she have already learned to shake hands, sit, and lie down.

The day of the accident

On the night of March 18 (yesterday), we took both of our dogs to the local dog park to play. Once we got in, not even a minute had gone by before all the dogs had crowded around her, scaring the poor Kiki. She tried to run away from them, only to be followed and “attacked”. She let out an ear-piercing scream. She was somehow hurt from a dog that jumped on her. Her cry for help lasted a solid minute. Chess was crying as well because he didn’t know what was happening to his sister. When we ran up to her, she was in obvious pain. She started to bite her foot/leg, so we knew something was wrong with her leg. After she calmed down and stop screaming, she attempted to walk. We noticed that she was walking with a limp. Her right back foot was levitated off the ground when she walked. We sadly took her straight home.

Medical care is very expensive!

The next day, we woke up really early to take her to her veterinarian to get some x-rays. The doctor found two fractures around her knee and said Kiki needed surgery. The surgeon at the animal hospital said it was a severe case of Tibial Tuberosity Avulsion. They would have to put pins in her knee. If this isn’t fixed, her bones would heal, but she would never regain the use of her leg. We didn’t want that to happen but to our dismay we found out that total price of the surgery would be around $4,000 dollars. We were shocked at the price of the surgery!! My family isn’t able to afford that large price. Our dad is out of work and he is trying to get his bachelor degree. Our mom is the only one that works in the family. The price of the surgery was too immense. Only today, we visited three different doctors and we paid consultation fees and x-rays for a total of $500.

We do not want to surrender Kiki

While we all sad, we went to the Humane Society asking for advice. They said that if we could not afford the surgery, we would have to surrender our precious Kiki to the Humane Society. But we do not know what would happen to Kiki if we surrender her.

She had such a bright future ahead of her!!! She one day hoped to become a therapy dog just like her big brother. Sadly, it all turned around in just a few minutes.

Please help Kiki get her surgery!

Please help Kiki get her surgery so she can walk again. We thought that with the help of everyone, Kiki will have the opportunity of a brighter future.

When we grow up, we want to become veterinarians and help animals in need. We want to help families that can’t afford expensive surgeries for their pets. We hope to one day open an animal clinic that does check-ups and surgeries for pets at a low price.

From this experience, we have learned that even though something bad happens, there is always a way around that problem.  We hope that in a few weeks, Kiki will be back to her normal, playful self, and that she can live the bright future that everyone has been hoping for.
