Little Warrior- Yavuz
Donation protected
On July 29th our colleague Gulsum, took her 9 year old son Yavuz to Westmead Children's Emergency department after he had experienced pain in his lower limbs for approximately 12 months.
Prior to this, she had taken him to numerous GPs and other health facilities who could not find any issue. Yavuz has been diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma (a type of bone cancer) on his spine, and it has spread to his lungs.
Her family's "normal" life has come to a grinding hault.
Gulsum had to immediately commit to being his full-time carer in the hospital. Her husband has had to pack up their family home, and move in with relatives along with their 2 year old son.
She has exhausted her leave entitlements, and Centrelink payments will not start until the very end of September.
In the meantime, she still has mortgage repayments, as well as her husbands extra fuel for the 2 hour round trip to Westmead Children's Hospital. Yavuz only has an appetite for Maccas right now, and that's with the additional ubereats fees. His only entertainment is Roblox.
Gulsum's bed is folded down from a cupboard. They are living out of overnight bags and are constantly being moved from room to room.
The first round of Chemotherapy is complete with 11 more months to go, followed by radiotherapy. He has also had stem cells harvested for when he is done with Chemotherapy to help make new healthy cells.
He has experienced side effects ranging from diarrhoea, full body rashes and hair loss.
We are asking those around us who are willing and able to donate towards helping Gulsum and her family out during this harrowing time.
On behalf of the Gulsum and her family thank you in advance for all your support and contributions.
Please note: I am raising these funds for Gulsum's sick son, so that he can be as comfortable as possible during this hard and stressful period. Gulsum is both a friend and colleague and all the donated money will be transferred directly to her to assist with medical bills, food and accommodation.
