This is Abby: daughter, sister, wife and mum to two beautiful children (Amelia and George).
On the 4th September, Abby was diagnosed with a large brain tumor and referred to Leeds General Infirmary. After meeting with the consultants, they said they were 90% sure that it was a Grade 1 Glioma and surgery was booked for the 14th October. The surgery was successful and all the tumor was removed. We could not believe it! Recovery went well and Abby started enjoying time with her family again.
On the 30th October, Abby got a phone call saying the biopsy results had been returned. That’s when our lives were turned upside down. We received the devastating news that Abby had a Grade 4 Astrocytoma with a prognosis of 14-16 months. Although all the tumor had been removed, we were told there would still be cells which would grow and spread again quickly.
The NHS have a plan of radiotherapy alongside chemotherapy tablets until August 2025 and then to reassess. This does not give us hope. We are determined to fight for Abby. Fight for a chance for George (18 months) to remember his Mummy.
After days and weeks of research, we now know that Abby needs to start immunotherapy as soon as possible. This requires travel to Germany in order to deliver the oncolytic virus through ammaya reservoir at approximately £50,000. This virus can kill cancer cells while leaving normal cells intact. Germany is one of the countries that is leading the way on brain cancer treatment. This procedure is currently being trialled in the UK.
We know that time is of the essence and that the sooner we can get Abby this treatment, the more effective it will be.
Any donation, however small, would be gratefully received.
