Liver Transplant Complications
Donation protected
I don’t know where to begin.. It all started with cancer - liver cancer to be specific. Cancer sucks. We started this journey 07/14/17 and are still making head-way despite countless setbacks.
07/14/17 Peggy received THE much anticipated phone call that she had a liver match & it was hers! We all arrive at the hospital ecstatic since she had been on the list for over a year. We wait overnight in the surgery ICU for the doctor to come tell us everything is alright but that doesn’t happen. Apparently the transplanted liver had bacteria and had failed. We are told she has 24-36 hours to live without a liver unless a match can be located. We cry and pray because we know what that means - the chances are slim for that timeframe & it means another person has to die for the transplant to happen. By the grace of God, lots of praying & a miracle - another liver is located in 12 hours and they perform the second transplant.
It WORKS! Now comes the hard part. We have spent nearly 6 continuous months in surgery ICU.
Our current status is ICU with pneumonia. I do not know HOW her husband does it but he is by her side every single day & every step of this journey. To say that he is the only reason she is alive is not an understatement. If he wasn’t there every day monitoring what was going on, I whole heartedly believe she wouldn’t be alive. He is a truly an amazing man.
That being said - he has not been able to go to work for the past 6 months.
Please, if you feel compelled - please donate. Or send her a card! Or say a Prayer.
