Living a better life with Alzheimer's
Donation protected
Hi, my name is William Yeates, and in July 2019 - at the age of 59 - I was diagnosed with Younger Onset Alzheimer's Disease. As devastating as this diagnosis was for my family and me, I have been trying over the past four years to lead a better life as this disease progresses.
An essential part of my approach has been my decision to start competing in Master's Swimming, Surf Lifesaving and Finswimming at local, state, national, and international levels. It is my hope that by sharing my experiences at international conferences on Dementia, I will be able to inspire others who are also living with Dementia that it is still possible to lead a life with purpose and meaning.
Over the next year, I will be competing at The Sunshine Coast in the Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships, the Gold Coast in the Australian Pool Rescue Championships, and the World Finswimming Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
I will also be travelling to Poland and Dublin - and hopefully Zurich - to present at conferences on Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease.
To illustrate my journey, I have created my own website - www.awakeningyourpositivity.com - where you can follow my progress.
