Living with End Stage Acute Kidney Failure

Hello Community, my name is Michael Cuevas. I am an artist and Educator currently living in Oakland, Ca.

On May 26th, 2022, I was diagnosed with End Stage Acute Kidney Failure, which leaves me with less than 10% functional capacity of my Kidneys. This is due to symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes that I have battled since the age of 15. Since the Diagnosis, I am currently undergoing Dialysis treatment 3 times a week for 3 and a half hours each treatment.

A month into my Dialysis treatment, I suffered what is called Thrombosis, a blood clot infection in my heart valve . This complication created a 3 week Hospital stay that impacted me financially.

I am now out of the Hospital undergoing Antibiotic Therapy to combat the infection. this kind of therapy is administered through an IV during my dialysis and by following a strict routine of taking antibiotics orally every day. I’m also being evaluated to be put on the list for a Kidney and Pancreas transplant provided by UCSF.

I have applied for Disability benefits but I am still in the lengthy process of receiving this assistance.

I’m asking my community to make any DONATION they can to help with immediate financial support to cover my living expenses for the next 2 months.

This will assist me as I wait to receive Disability benefits and return to my Educational work for the 2022-2023 school year.
