Liz Bocon is a dear friend who has overcome many health challenges over the years; most notably kidney and ovarian cancers. While on vacation, after another recent stint in the hospital due to scarring from her cancer surgeries, she fell while playing pickleball and broke her femur. As she was on Iselsboro, which is an island and doesn't have a hospital, she had to be taken by boat to the nearest hospital. From there, she was transported to a hospital in Damariscotta where she had surgery the next morning. Her wife, Kathleen, of course went with her and had to spend a number of nights in whatever Inns and hotels could be found in the height of tourist season. Liz and Kathleen have endured years of medical treatments and anxiety and have maintained a positive attitude, constantly fighting to help Liz regain her health. This recent accident is a considerable setback physically, emotionally and financially. The recovery from a broken femur is long and complicated. I have no doubt that they are up to this task but I am hoping we can all ease their burden by helping with some of the financial costs of medical treatments, emergency housing and transportations and missed work. We can make a significant dent in the costs they are facing and let them know their communities truly hold them.
