Friends and family,
Our sweet mother, Elizabeth Sherrod Bernal, is 66. On November 26, 2023, she suffered a brain aneurysm and a stroke. Unfortunately, she nor her children were prepared for this medically, financially, or emotionally.
She is at Baylor Scott & White in Temple, Texas. Although her medical team has resolved the initial aneurysm and a psuedo-aneurysm, they also conducted a hemicraniectomy. The left side of the brain suffered the stroke; hence, she cannot talk & the right side of her body is immobile. While in ICU, she has developed a lung infection, and she is being treated with antibiotics. Doctors are placing a feeding tube in her stomach so that recovery and rehabilitation will be easier.
We pray that mom will continue healing while in ICU. Then, she will have a long road ahead of her. She will need to move to a rehab facility when she's released from ICU. There, she will need to learn to walk, learn to talk and swallow food again. She will have lots of therapy, and it will be tough. There may be many moments of frustration in her future. The fact that she has survived all that she has in a week, is a MIRACLE!
Any donations will go to all of her medical expenses. Her children, Melanie Sherrod White, Kristen Sherrod Fitzhugh, Lindsay Sherrod Fitzhugh & Jacob Bernal thank everyone in advance with the upmost gratitude.
Please continue to pray for her healing and recovery as we begin to navigate the financial impact this will have on her and her children.
