Liz Hengber Medical Expense Fund

Hi Everyone. On June 18th, our beloved Liz Hengber was rushed by ambulance to the hospital ER, and quickly diagnosed with a ruptured esophagus, and consequent sepsis.

Two hours later, Liz was undergoing emergency surgery to begin a multi-staged approach to repair the esophagus and install a feeding tube which will remain for some time.

Due to the life threatening condition of sepsis, Liz spent ten days in the ICU, with installed abdominal tubes draining the sepsis fluids, IV antibiotic infusion, and myriad other IV medicines flushing the system and maintaining the balance of things... It was a miraculous and painful sight.

Liz remains in the hospital as they continue to drain and flush her system of sepsis contaminants. She will undergo another surgery today (6/30) to insert two new tubes in her back in a continued effort to drain spesis fliud from around her lungs. She will soon be transferred to a physical rehabilitation hospital to begin the work to regain her strength & mobility.

She is improving each day, but the healing of the esophagus is a slow journey. In a month’s time, the surgeon will determine if the tissue is revitalized, or will require a subsequent procedure…so the situation is “ongoing” for the near future.

Beyond the blessings of medical insurance, Liz’s family will have significant medical costs, so this GoFundMe is an effort to defray the impact of those forthcoming expenses.
