Lizzie’s Road To Tokyo

Donation protected
Hello and thank you for taking the time to check out my fundraising page!

For those reading this who do not know me, my name is Lizzie Williams!
I was born with a disability called Osteogenesis Imperfecta - otherwise known as Brittle Bones. I grew up surrounded by people putting limitations on me, because they were so scared I could break a bone. However, I've pushed my limits, grown stronger, believed in myself, and now live an independent and exciting life.

At 23 years old, I am a British Athlete T54 Wheelchair Racer competing internationally aiming to achieve my dream of becoming a Paralympian. Tokyo 2020 is fast approaching and so I am setting my sights on these games with hopes to qualify next year!

As you can imagine, the journey from now and till then will be an exciting one, yet also expensive, particularly as I do not have any financial sponsors on board. I've invested all the savings I had into this sport, and I am now dependent on kind donations and community fundraising events, to fund training camps, competions, equipment etc.

I wrapped up my 2017 season extremely well and it saw me break my previous PB's,  and move up the UK rankings to 3rd/4th/5th between my 5 events (100m/200m/400m/800m/1500m.).
As a result of my great progress last year, I was selected for the British Athletics Academy Squad 'Parallel Success'  2017/2018.

Unfortunately, this year has not gone to plan and I have been unable to compete due to ill health, and also struggles to maintain living costs. Despite the fact that last year I finished off as one of the country’s fastest T54 racers, I’m still not in a position where I can focus on my athletics all day everyday. I still need to earn money to cover rent, bills, food etc. And balancing multiple jobs AND training 6 days a week is a real struggle.

I set up this fundraising page last year with the aim to raise money for a typical 12 month period:
- training (£1400)
- Gym and strength + conditioning (£390)
- training camp (£450)
- travel and accomodation (£1500+)
- kit (£200)
- new push rims (£145 a pair)
- Cateye Strada Slim Wireless Clock (£45.60)

UK competitions can be between £60 - £250 per competition dependent on location and duration. International competions can cost at least £600 - £1000+ dependent on location and duration.

I greatly appreciate each and everyone of you who read this, as I know many of you have already supported me massively on my journey so far. I wouldn't have been able to achieve all that I have so far, without you. So, thank YOU! You're amazing.
