Donate to GiveDirectly to help those most affected by COVID-19!
In Pennsylvania alone, there have been over 89,500 cases of COVID-19, and Montgomery County has been the center of the outbreak. Although the pandemic has influenced all members of our community, it is having a disproportionate effect on low-income families who already struggle to afford food and necessary supplies. Governor Wolf has closed down all nonessential businesses to stop the spread of COVID-19, which has unfortunately left many people without a job or a source of reliable income. For families who rely on weekly salaries, the shutdowns have been particularly overwhelming.
Our goal is to help these families by donating to GiveDirectly, an organization that works to aid vulnerable households enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). GiveDirectly targets families living in areas that have been hit hard by the virus, especially single-parent families and older citizens.
As students at Lower Merion High School, we recognize that we are in the perfect position to help this cause. Although we have to stay home, there are still many ways we can help members of our community. For this reason, we encourage community members–students and adults alike–to contribute to our fundraiser and help spread the word. Any amount of money is greatly appreciated!
