LULAC National Service Center (LNESC) – San Antonio

The poverty rate in San Antonio, Texas is one of the highest in the nation. The impact of poverty on education for disadvantaged children is severe and is resulting in extremely high drop-out rates in some San Antonio schools. Without mitigation, the adverse effects on San Antonio’s communities and the lives of the people in those communities is long lasting, and feeds the cycle of poverty.

For over 20 years, LNESC San Antonio has been a beacon of hope and support for disadvantaged children, families and communities in San Antonio.

Particularly, LNESC San Antonio works with student populations and school districts in San Antonio to allay the severe educational impacts of poverty in San Antonio communities by providing critical resources, including math and science programs, reading programs and scholarships, for education and graduation of at-risk students…students who, with the help of these programs, can have the opportunity to become productive members of their communities.

LNESC San Antonio currently serves just over 1,000 students in San Antonio. Much more is needed, and the time is now.

LNESC San Antonio intends to expand its beacon of hope and support by establishing a permanent community learning center in San Antonio—a center that will provide the space, facilities and resources necessary to dramatically intervene and disrupt the severe educational impact of poverty in San Antonio communities, a center that will turn the tide for at-risk students, their families and their communities.
