Local Bartender favorite has cancer and unemployed

Donation protected

I'm putting this fundraiser together for a dear friend of mine who's touched a lot of lives over the course of his 50 years on the planet and has recently been diagnosed with colon cancer during these uncertain times.  It has made his situation quite dire.   Greg works in the hospitality/food industry and we all know that industry has suffered the most in the pandemic.

Greg came back home to San Diego this year from a stint in Hawaii to be closer to his family during the pandemic and out of the blue discovered he had a tumor that had to be removed right away and was later diagnosed with colon cancer. He spent a month in the hospital.  He couldn't eat the entire time.  He had to get emergency medical insurance to cover the hospital expenses but now does not have an income.

Prior to diagnosis, Greg was receiving unemployment during the pandemic, however since his diagnosis, his previous employer is back up and running, but unfortunately due to his illness he cannot work for them or anyone else at this time.  Therefore, he is no longer eligible for unemployment assistance.  This means he has no income while he fights for his life.

With the help of family and friends Greg is getting by, but it is a lot to take on when you have to worry about your life and your livelihood - having no income and fighting cancer adds another layer of stress to an already scary situation.  I wanted to set this fund up to support Greg's need for essential living costs:  rent, food, cell phone, insurance, car payments, and medical expenses during his fight.

From being a good friend, a loyal team member on the softball team, an ear over a drink or just being a Carter - Greg has always been there for others, now it's time we rally behind him.  If you know his family, you know they are inclusive, supportive and their love and support of others have always been their trademark.

I've known Greg Carter since 1997 and many people in San Diego know Greg either from him bartending at some of San Diego's most prominent restaurants or from his mother's legacy.  His mother was a prominent figure in the San Diego political scene serving as Chief of Staff for  District 5 City Council Member.  She died of Colon cancer in 2002. Now Greg has her same diagnosis.

We will keep you posted on his progress through this page.  Myself, Greg, and his brother Curt will provide updates.

Any contribution helps and please share with your networks...Greg deserves a fighting chance, a roof over his head, food in his belly, and the proper healthcare he deserves.
