Local CDA Skater Needs Kindness
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Lou Davey and I am raising funds for my son Christian Davey. He is a life long local skater and current member of the Yousta Storytellers Club Skate Team. Christian was born in Oxnard, CA and moved to Salinas, CA to be closer to his grandparents and was gifted his first skateboard at the age of TWO. He “dropped in” for the very first time at the old CDA skate park around age seven and THAT was a defining moment I witnessed. That was the precise
moment Christian mentally and physically showed the world his passion and drive to land the trick was more
powerful than any fleeting
fear of failure or injury. Since then Christian has skated his way around the Pacific Inland Northwest, down to warmer ramp weather throughout Cali and Arizona, then landing in his beloved Kansas City, and not to exclude his three day jaunt to Skatopia. He gets around for a kid that just turned 21.
Christian’s secondary passion and focus is in the construction field. Most recently in the last 18 months, he landed a job he very much enjoys and shows promise with, JR&Co, specializing in commercial roofing. Management at JR supports his passion for the art of skateboarding and they have granted him leave on many occasions to compete and travel for team/personal skating. Team street skating is what really lights this kid up! That is exactly what he was doing with his favorite crew, street skating in an annual downtown Spokane competition, WE RUN THE CITY. A 10 stair jump seemed like a land the team needed for their edit. So he went for it. Well it wasn’t in the cards to land that 10 stair jump. What it landed him was a torn ACL, one torn meniscus, and one meniscus completely severed. What got lost in the ACL shuffle that night at the emergency room was the fact that Christian had actually also suffered an acute kidney injury. He was released and within 10 days was admitted back to Kootenai Medical for kidney failure. His unattended kidney injury cause dangerously low
calcium levels, severe dehydration, heart stress due to dangerous potassium levels, and paralysis began to set in. Before my very eyes Christian lost the ability to use his hands and feet and was rapidly losing his ability to speak. We headed immediately to the ER where we stayed for three days while they brought him back to health.
**A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE ER AND SECOND FLOOR NURSING STAFF AT KMC! We do not have enough good words to express how grateful we are for each one of you! May the care and kindness you gave Christian be returned to you a thousand times over!
Today as I write this, Christian is under general anesthesia with Dr. Quinn(the sports medicine orthopedic surgeon, not the medicine woman ) who is at the helm of C’s future in skateboarding.
Best case,
** One full month absolutely NO weight
** Three months no working
**Minimum one year physical therapy and no skating
That is best case and that is what we are planning. This is devastating. If you know Christian, you know he battles an undiagnosed gastrointestinal demon that is easily triggered by the stress of a severe physical injury and psychological trauma. His world is upside down and quite frankly, lacks the family support he deserves. He and I are doing the best we can but this has annihilated us both in all aspects. I am raising funds for his recovery time and associated
costs. The month and a half
waiting for a doctor to be able to see and actually repair his knee has started a financial windfall from which this kid(and I) simply cannot recover.
I hope to raise $11,000 for my son.
The money we receive will 1) Go directly to pay for Christian’s monthly expenses while he cannot work. 2) Pay to replace his vehicle he was forced to sell and to pay for modest transportation and insurance until his paychecks begin to come in again. 3) Lastly to help with the back bills created by his Labor Day accident and delayed care.
We are talking about a solid young man with a damaged heart of gold,
facing an insurmountable pile of medical bills(even with his insurance) and other financial obstacles. He(we) needs a healthy dose of kindness. If you have the ability to donate(and even if you don’t) you will see desire overcome disability, determination replace disparity, and triumph of the human spirit over loss, injury, and trauma. Any gift given is a gift deeply appreciated by myself and my wonderful “hoodlum” son, Christian. ✌️
