Climate Change Conference for UK 16-35 year olds
The UK's first Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) will be held in Manchester to educate and up skill youth to take action in their personal and professional lives.
What are we planning?
The LCOY will take place on the weekend of 23/24 November 2019 at Manchester Metropolitan University to connect and up skill UK youth on how to take climate action in their communities and through political processes.
The conference brings together some of the leading figures in the environmental movement to deliver a programme of keynote speeches and workshops on the most poignant aspects of climate change. We are bringing the brightest minds together to educate youth about climate change - we have over 50 speakers from organisations such as Greenpeace, Wildlife Trust, Friends of the Earth, Unicef and the Wellbeing Economy Alliance. We will cover topics on everything from engaging businesses in low carbon strategies to eco anxiety and climate change education.
Beyond the conference, our schools outreach programme, which has provided climate change education resources for schools across the UK, is supporting teachers to educate young people.
How can we make a difference?
We can help shape global climate policy. There will be over 50 LCOYs around the world this Autumn, the largest organised youth-led effort to mitigate climate change. A policy document will be created to feed directly into an International Conference of Youth which ultimately feeds into the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change negotiations taking place in November 2019 at COP25. This is a chance for UK Youth voices to be heard and to come together for stronger action.
We need your help!
We are a grassroots initiative. Our conference is delivered by a core team of 20 volunteers, with partner organisations contributing their time on a pro bono basis. We can deliver an impactful conference on skeletal resources, but we still need some help. We need to cover the core costs of the venue and equipment. We have kept our ticket prices low to ensure we are an inclusive event, but need your help to achieve this! Please donate and help UK youth fight the climate crisis.
