More information about Plainfield Area Humane Society: The Plainfield Area Humane Society is a private non-profit organization, governed by a Board of Trustees. We have been in continuous operation since 1933. Our mission is to find a safe, loving and appropriate home for every homeless pet, including those with special needs or challenges. We strive to treat, heal and provide optimal well-being for the animals placed in our care; and to create an environment where our animals receive love, respect and attention.

The end of 2018 found 3 dogs that needed our help and received extraordinary veterinary care.
Blondie, a 10 month old Huskie mix was hit by a car. Her left hind leg was badly broken. The vets
determined that it could be repaired, so she was taken to Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton
Falls where the orthopedic surgery was done.
After a few days recovering at GSVS, she came back to the shelter where she recuperated. Cage rest,
short walks, medication and a lot of TLC worked their magic.
No one ever came looking for her.
Blondie is now a happy, healthy dog that has put her past behind her and is looking for her forever
home.
Corrine has been a resident of PAHS for a while. She is an older girl and wasn’t spayed.
She has been a healthy, happy girl until one day when she showed us she wasn’t feeling well.
A visit to the veterinarian determined that she had a condition called pyometra. It is an infection in the
uterus and needed immediate spay surgery. This was performed at Garden State Veterinary Services.
Once again, she spent time at GSVS and then came back to the shelter for medication, R&R and TLC.
Corrine is now a happy girl looking for a home.

Chief, the little black terrier mix was adopted! He was neutered and all seemed to be fine –until it
wasn’t. Chief’s penis was necrotic, his glands were swollen. The veterinarians at Westfield Animal
Hospital and GSVS were consulted. No one knew what happened or caused this, but he needed
immediate surgery. He had a penile amputation and scrotal urethrostomy. He too recovered at the
shelter. His new family came in every day to walk him and help care for him. When he got the all clear
from the vet, his family came and officially adopted him.
They have brought Chief to visit a few times. It is a happy ending for Chief and his family.

We had a choice with these three dogs. We chose to save their lives.
These extraordinary vet bills came to $20,000.
We need help to replenish our funds so we can continue to help more animals and give them a second
chance at finding their forever homes.
