Local Teen & Family Needs Community Support

Our last summer before graduating. Live life to the fullest. Embrace life. Imagine you set out to make joyful memories and ended up suffering traumatic injury at just 17 years old. On a road trip to pickup plants for her friend’s mom, the girls stopped at Lundbreck falls (AKA the Niagara Falls of Alberta). Alexis, the firecracker she is, wanted to embrace her first visit to a waterfall by trying to jump off it (as there were so many others doing that afternoon). That’s where things went horribly wrong. She went to jump - thought better of it and tried to turn around - but couldn't stop herself from the forward momentum. And experienced a most tragic fall. After hitting the rocks on the way down, nearly 40’ below, she somehow managed to stay afloat until she was pulled to shore at the bottom of the cliff. Paramedics took her to Foothills Hospital and is currently in ICU. Alexis suffered a couple spinal fractures, broken femur, shattered hips, broken pelvis, shattered knees, broken foot, broken jaw, and lost some teeth. She is truly lucky to be alive but she has several years of recovery ahead of her, likely many more surgeries, and it may be September before she can manage to see visitors. As she grieves the loss of what she thought her grad year would look like, she will need support so she can focus on healing and her recovery. Her family lives 3 hours from where she is in hospital and will be for the next year+. All of the above is made exponentially more difficult given that the family is navigating all of this during a global pandemic.  This GoFundMe will go directly to Alexis’ parents to help with the immediate costs associated with supporting their daughter over 300km away from their home and the cost of whatever modifications are necessary to support her coming home.  Let's show this family what community support looks like.
