Locate International Sky Dive fundraiser
There are over one thousand people who remain unidentified in the UK alone and many thousands more worldwide. Locate International is a team of dedicated volunteers who try to find the missing pieces to reunite those missing with their loved ones or re-attach an identity for those unidentified in their death. The Locate International team investigates these cases and provides support at no personal cost to families.
Over the last two years, I have dedicated my time to a voluntary team within the Locate International Scottish Cold Case Unit at Glasgow Caledonian University to help find answers for those facing the pain of being unable to lay a loved one to rest. My role in the team includes weekly meetings, taking on specialised work investigating each individual case, analysing or re-analysing all available data from multiple angles, and attempting to piece together timelines or new information in hopes of identifying or tracing a missing or unidentified person. As a team, we aim to raise awareness of missing and unidentified individuals through media campaigns or appeals.
To raise funds for Locate International, I will be undertaking a Skye Dive – jumping from an aircraft around 10,000 feet above the ground, with approximately 30 seconds of free-fall going up to 120 miles per hour … quite scary now I say it aloud like that!
As an entirely voluntary endeavour, all funds raised will go directly towards the costs of supporting those who are missing or unidentified. The work that the Locate International volunteers do is invaluable to so many, however often goes unnoticed unless you or your family are unfortunately directly impacted by the essential work that we do as a charity – helping locate or identify missing loved ones - a daughter in the search for her father who had been lost off the UK coast. The young woman had waited over two years and needed help to make a complicated legal application for exhumation outside the UK, DNA extraction, and comparison to see if a man found dead and unidentified on a beach was her father. The costs, which reached over £4500, and the complicated process are not something a family should have to do without specialist support.
Locate International is a fantastic charity, and I am beyond proud to work alongside and support each and every one of the volunteers. We are so grateful for any donations you can offer; every single penny counts. We hugely appreciate your support.
Thank you,
Brodie
