Lockhart Native Plant Garden
Donation protected
Calling all native plant and garden lovers! Please help our continuing efforts to maintain Lockhart Native Plant Garden in Pine Mountain Club, CA. by donating to our GO FUND ME campaign.
The Native Plant Garden was originally started in 1999 by residents of Pine Mountain Club, who were interested in providing a native garden that would display local natives for the enjoyment and education of residents and tourists. For fifteen years, Mary Ann and James Lockhart managed the garden with loving care. They ended their Sierra Club-led hikes at the garden so they could talk about the plants. Two years ago the garden was named in their honor.
Over the last two years, the garden has been revitalized with the help of volunteers and our GoFundMe campaign. Plant signs were replaced and brochures were developed and printed. We now have over 40 plant species identified with more appearing all the time. The pathways through the garden are complete and two benches were added so visitors can sit and enjoy the garden's delights. A new fence line was put in to better outline the perimeter of the garden. Our grooming efforts over the last two years have resulted in more species of natives thriving and the return of bees, butterflies, birds, and lizards. Even signs of an occasional bear will be seen in the garden probably enjoying the Elderberries.
The funds raised this year will go to purchasing new plant identification signs, repairing parts of the original split-rail fencing ( we had a brutal winter), replenishing the native plant species, printing brochures, and hiring local landscapers to trim the garden of its overgrowth. Our goal is to reach $1800 to cover these costs.
Please contribute what you can to this fundraiser. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all our volunteers who make this garden the beauty that it is!
