Logan Sibbet Support Fund

Hi family and friends,
My brother, Logan Sibbet, has been diagnosed with Primary Membranous Nephropathy, an autoimmune disease causing his body to attack his kidneys.
Logan is currently in the hospital for the second time in a month. We don't know when he'll be discharged, but when he heads home, he will need support. We don’t want him to worry about his bills, cooking or grocery shopping, which is why I've set up this GoFundMe. Plus many of you have asked how you can help!
The funds will be used for:
- Meals and grocery delivery - standing and walking are painful, so it’s hard to cook or run errands
- Day-to-day expenses - he hasn't been able to work much since he's been in the hospital
- Medical bills - fortunately, Logan has health insurance, but hospital bills are piling up
How did he get to this point? Logan's medical history for those who are interested.
Onset - In late July, Logan’s legs started swelling. He went to his doctor and was referred to several specialists. He had numerous tests and scans as they tried to determine the cause of his symptoms. Meanwhile his swelling and discomfort increased. Eating most foods caused him pain, so he switched to an anti-inflammatory diet and waited for results.
Diagnosis and first hospital stay - In mid-September, his doctor diagnosed him with membranous nephropathy. He recommended Logan go to the ER to get an expedited contrast MRI, which ultimately showed numerous blood clots. He was admitted to the hospital. Test results also revealed alarming creatinine levels, an indicator of kidney malfunction.
Logan stayed at UCSD Medical Center for ten days (through September 28th). They put him on blood thinners for the blood clots and did MRIs, ultrasounds, biopsies, CT scans and blood work. The specialists (urologist, cardiologist, oncologist and nephrologist) were convened and tried to determine if the membranous nephropathy was the primary cause or a symptom of something else such as cancer or hepatitis. Each would require different treatments. They ruled out everything else and confirmed he has primary membranous nephropathy which is causing nephrotic syndrome.
Second hospital stay - At home, the swelling continued, and he also started experiencing more intense pain and headaches, and later vomiting and what looked like deep bruising on his leg.
Logan went back to the ER on Monday, October 17th and was admitted to UCSD hospital for the second time with an infection and more signs of blood clots or bruising in his leg. Fortunately, the infection was cured by IV antibiotics but his kidney function has significantly decreased and he can't go home until it improves, which they’re hoping will be in the next few days.
What comes next? In two weeks (if his kidney function increases enough to return home), Logan will start on Rituximab, a monoclonal antibody treatment that's used to treat some autoimmune diseases and types of cancer. The treatment will wipe out his immune system and he will have to be extra careful for the next year about being in public spaces because even a common cold could make him extremely sick. He’ll need as much support as possible and we’ll keep everyone updated on his health status.
Want to help in other ways?
Solar referrals - As many of you know, Logan works for Harness Power helping people across California gain energy independence and get rooftop solar on their homes and businesses. One of the best ways you can support Logan is by asking him about solar for your home or referring people to him. He will need to find ways to grow his business right now without having to walk door-to-door - something that’s particularly challenging right now and the most common way to talk to people about solar. He can support households and businesses in most states across the west by meeting with prospective clients on virtual platforms like Zoom. He’s helped many happy clients this way.
- If you’re interested in learning more about this or know someone who is, please reach out and I'll send you his email.
Emotional support - Logan’s primary passions outside of work are surfing, singing in the choir and spending time with his family. All three are extra challenging right now, and he could use some general cheering up and love from family, friends and community. If you have a few minutes to send him a photo, a funny meme, or just let him know you’re thinking of him I’m sure he’d appreciate it. Please reach out if you need his email or phone #.
