Loki “Handsome Boy” McMahon UNJUSTLY shot by animal control
On September 29th, our Loki boy was shot by an animal control officer. Our lawn guy mistakenly left our back gate open and Loki (3 years old) and his sister (Sissy, 4 years old) got out of the gate. There was a worker at the house next door to ours who was doing some power washing. The worker sprayed our dogs with water (which they love and then assumed it was play time) and they ran back into our backyard. The worker then called his boss who in turn called animal control. Loki is a large boxer weighing in at 100lbs and can be quite intimidating solely due to his appearance.

Animal control arrived and did not see our dogs. As he was getting out of his vehicle to speak to the worker, our dogs came running out to play! Loki started running towards the animal control officer and startled him causing him to stumble backwards onto his truck. The animal control officer only came armed to round up two loose dogs with his personal firearm. No pepper spray, no dog catchers leash, no dart gun. Only his personal firearm (380). He shot Loki in the neck. We rushed Loki to the nearest emergency vet. The vet sent us home with antibiotics and pain pills. Loki started having trouble breathing so we took him to his regular vet who confirmed with X-ray that Loki was bleeding internally with a collapsed lung and need an emergency chest tube. We rushed him to the only emergency vet qualified to perform this surgery. We picked Loki up with the vet saying he drained 3 liters of blood off his lung and by the end of 24 hours (draining every 4 hours) he stated he thought Loki only had a small bleed which would heal on its own. We brought Loki home thanking God that he was going to be okay.

Four days later I noticed he was struggling, yet again, to breathe. We took Loki to his regular vet who confirmed that the he was full of blood yet again. We had to rush Loki to a different emergency vet (2 hours away) so they could drain his lung and perform an exploratory thoracotamy (chest explore).

We’ve spent nearly $5000 getting him this far and we cannot lose our baby boy now. If you can please, find it in your heart to help, we would be forever grateful. Anything helps!
Quotes from vets Loki has seen over the last week.

“Loki is our most favorite patient ever, such a kind soul. What has happened to him is an absolute horror and should never have happened “.

“Loki is a perfect gentleman. He’s so bright eyed and loving with a zest for life”.

“Loki is the sweetest gentle giant we have ever had the pleasure of treating. We are rooting for his healing and for his justice!”

“What has taken place with Loki is an utterly horrific act, shooting a family pet in front of their home! Loki is an absolute lover of people. I hope this ACO is held accountable for what he has done”.

This devastating act of a complete injustice, misjudgment of the situation and lack of proper training has destroyed our family emotionally and financially trying to keep our baby boy alive.

While we realize other actions need to be pursued, our main concern right now is getting Loki the surgery he needs and on the path to complete healing. If you cannot donate, we completely understand but, prayers are free and greatly needed.
