Lombok and Gili Islands Earthquakes
Donation protected
Communities in Indonesia need your help now.
Three earthquakes in a week have devastated Indonesia’s Lombok Island and the Gili islands.
The most recent and largest quake so far at magnitude 7.0 occurred on August 5th. Hundreds of aftershocks have been recorded, and thousands of houses have been damaged or destroyed. According to recent reports, more than 300 people have died and thousands have been injured.
My sister Jo has made Lombok and Gili Trawangan her home for more than 20 years. Her husband Marta is from northern Lombok which has been badly hit. Jo and Marta have many staff and friends who are temporarily living outdoors, with low supplies of water and food - they are in need of help. I am asking for donations to help Jo and Marta's staff and friends to gain the basic necessities, and start to rebuild their lives. In the next few days, donations will provide food and water, as these are in shortage.
It was only in May this year that Sean, Molly, Kieran and I stayed with Jo and Marta, and their daughter Ayesha for one month. We got to know many of Jo and Marta's staff and friends personally. They are lovely people, and they need our help. I am hoping to raise enough so that Jo and Marta can help get their staff and friends back on their feet.
Please donate what you can. Know that even the cost of a coffee or a take-away can make an enormous difference. Please ask your relatives, work colleagues and friends to donate.
Thank you.
