London Marathon 2024 for Polden Bower SEN School

Hi! I'm Alicia and I am running the London Marathon 2024 with the hopes to raise money for a SEN school close to my heart: Polden Bower in Somerset.

Polden Bower is a wonderful school that see's students with additional needs and disabilities with an EHCP all the way through from Reception to College age. One of the current projects is the Community Horticultural area. The school says "Our children and young people really enjoy horticulture and we know the benefits that gardening can bring to our young people. Gardening provides heavy muscle work which is really beneficial for our young people. There is also a sense of satisfaction and celebration when you can see what you have grown. Children and young people learn to care for and look after plants, they can grow different vegetables and fruits and learn about how plants grow. We want to create a working area which is accessible to our family and friends of the school and available to access all year round" so this is where the money will be going!

I am really proud to be one of the parents of a child at this school. My other more personal reason is to do this for him and all his friends at the school. Our children are incredible and they can achieve so much with the right support and understanding. So for all of you, "believe you can" because you will go on to do amazing things. We need to talk about and support Disability's and Special Needs so much more than we currently do. Somewhere like this school is incredibly important for so many children and families.

I am training almost from scratch on a blood stream of coffee and cookies, so please give what you can! I have very limited experience of running and have never done a park run let alone a marathon!
