No Sleep 'til Scotland!
We’re attempting to cycle from London to Scotland in ONE day to raise money for Ikasi Youth, a South African charity committed to improving the education and employment opportunities for teenagers from local townships.
No sleep, no stops (apart from taking on food and drink) and no surrender, until we cross the Scottish border!
- WHO?
The three of us (Matt, Ben & Lee) have been utilising our allowance of lockdown exercise quite efficiently and we genuinely think we have a chance of pulling this off.
We’re trying to raise £2,400 between us for the 24 hours of riding.
We’ve watched semi pro cyclists try a similar route from Bristol to London and fail to make it in 24 hours.. but with our slightly different route, a little bit of pub napkin maths, some training, and a lot of pure, ignorant naivety... we think we can make it.
- HOW?
We’re leaving at the crack of dawn on a Friday and the plan is to arrive Saturday morning at Gretna Green just over the Scottish border. It works out just under 600km with over 8,000feet of uphill climbing through the day and night.
(That’s around 15 marathons back to back with the last 3 marathons being up and over the hilly Yorkshire Dales)
Friends and family have kindly agreed to carry some supplies for us on route to minimise time off the bikes - and bring our likely bruised and battered bodies back afterwards!
- WHEN?
We’re setting off on Friday 7th August, so we’re trying to raise all of our donations before then. If we have time we’ll try and post updates on this campaign page on the day.
- WHY?
Ikasi Youth is a South African charity that does incredible work supporting teenagers from townships and rural areas through life skills and leadership programmes.
The programmes are aimed towards developing teenagers to take leadership over their own lives and teaching them the skills to help them make the transition into further education and employment after finishing school.
Having worked with the team recently on another fundraising project we have first hand experience of what a special and dedicated group they are, they truly just want to see as many of these kids succeed as possible.
