Dawn to Dusk Virtual Relay #DoItForDan
Donation protected
This page has been set up by Longford Athletics Club. On May 2nd, club members will take part in a Dawn to Dusk Virtual Relay in which members will run/jog individually for 30 minutes within a 2km radius of their home. Members will use this initiative as way to participate together, albeit apart, and also try to raise funds for the Do It For Dan trust. Please support in any way you can.
Dan is the son of Laois couple Niall and Aisling Donoher. On December 6th 2019, at 8 months old, Dan was diagnosed with a rare genetic neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1 and Scoliosis. The life expectancy of an SMA Type 1 child is 18-24 months but there is hope. A groundbreaking new treatment is available but it's only available in the US at a cost of $2.1 million. This therapy can only be given to children under the age of 2 so they are in a race against the clock to raise the necessary funds.
Our virtual relay will take place between 6am and 9pm on May 2nd with at least two members running/jogging individually at any one time. To add a bit of fun to proceedings, members have been assigned a team (North Longford or South Longford) depending on where in County Longford they live. The location of St. Mel's Cathedral has been used to 'split the county in two' and to determine the teams. Following the relay, the total combined distances of each team will be calculated to establish if the northsiders or the southsiders have covered the most ground!
All donations are very much appreciated. Although the Do It For Dan fundraiser has reached it's original target, we would like to keep it going a little longer and show our support.
